Chris O’Donnell On ‘Batman’ Franchise: Playing Robin “Was A Blast”Posted: June 5, 2013
Before there was Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale with one of the biggest franchises in movie history, a slew of actors have taken on the roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman. And soon after Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer (with Danny DeVito playing the creepiest Penguin ever), it was Val Kilmer and Chris O’Donnell’s turn. In probably one of the most favorite films of the series, O’Donnell took on the role of Robin in the 1995 hit Batman Forever. Looking back, the 42-year-old actor told me what it was like to play such an iconic character.
“I grew up a fan of the TV series. For me, it was a blast,” he said during a recent interview. “My kids get a kick out of it – sometimes I see them playing with the dolls that are me.”
O’Donnell was also joined by Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, and Nicole Kidman in the film. Not to mention, a quick cameo from his previous Mad Love co-star Drew Barrymore that had just wrapped. He later would reprise his role in the 1997 sequel Batman & Robin.
