‘Audrey’ Exclusive: Kim Shaw And Arielle Kebbel Dish On New “Food Porn” Series

“I vow to lick my plate clean and be a dirty girl.” Up for food porn, any one? Plus, how can you go wrong with Betty Thomas doing some directing? (Though, we will always think of her as the nasty Velda Plendor from Troop Beverly Hills that was definitely not getting a thrill.) Thomas takes part in the new WIGS YouTube series Audrey, starring the hilarious Kim Shaw and Arielle Kebbel as food show stylists catering to a stale and boring host. But what begins crummy leads to Audrey (Shaw) getting everything and more out of those taste buds.

In the new Julie and Julia meets Sex and the City web series, Audrey can be found a little more into food compared to co-worker Marissa (Kebbel), and would rather write on her food blog than get bossed around all day. Her foodie antics ultimately lead her to both complications and success in the culinary world. It’s quite simple really: food and sex. And it’s just as funny as you’d think it would be. Shaw and Kebbel let me in on working together and why they signed on for the show.

“I actually worked with Betty Thomas on John Tucker Must Die and loved working with her! Very honored in working with such a strong female director,” Kebbel exclaimed. “I was immediately honored to be thrown into that group of people and to be representing women in this way on YouTube, which I think we all agree is like the new TV source; our outlet. So there was no question really. I really wanted to be a part of it and I thought the script was sexy and fun.”

“It’s kind of like a set,” Shaw explained the setting. “Everybody has their little own area where they are supposed to excel in and in this project we are supposed to be the food stylists. And we both come together because we hate the character that’s the star of the show. Arielle’s character—she’s kind of like a wild child. My character I think is just trying to get through the day a lot because it’s not exactly what she’d like to be doing. She’d rather be home writing on her blog or cooking. So they are opposites but it’s that wonderful relationship where they rely on each other and become best friends throughout the series, which is really fun to watch.” Adding Kebbel, “We offer each other a balance…I thought their friendship was very sweet and really relatable. Everyone has a girlfriend like that.”

The chemistry between the two actors is obvious too. Perhaps working together at a younger age had something to do with that. “Arielle and I did a commercial together when we were like 14 years old,” Shaw laughed. I’ve seen her around auditions since I moved here, and she’s such a beautiful, wonderful person to just know, and her energy is just so great so when I found out we were going to be able to work together I was very excited.”

The show gets (well, is) a bit dirty, but it’s just like any other day in the kitchen really. Right? The duo both admit to love cooking (though Kebbel quips that Shaw’s boyfriend is probably more impressed with her skills.) “I love food and I love eating out. It’s so funny because it’s something that sustains us as humans, but why not have a little flash with it as well? That’s what’s so cool about food. When you make something and present it to someone and when it brings joy to them it brings so much joy to you. And I think its like a nurturing lady quality,” Shaw chimed in. “I think that’s what’s so cool about this story. It’s all about joyful things. It’s all about food and it’s all about sex, which it can’t get much better than that.”
